Molds. Frames. Brackets. Limits. Roles. The general consensus I’ve encountered throughout the pursuit of my calling was that it has to be a single thing that I have to master akin to a snail racing in a corridor only a few millimeters wider than its shell. Yet, I never felt like it was the right approach.
From secretly (from my parents) changing my science major to a film one and developing a grassroots production studio “Created From Scratch” during the last year at Dawson College, all the way to fundraising for films some distributors deemed “too controversial” – it always felt like there is nothing better than listening to advice and doing it your way anyways.
It is tough to box myself into a single professional dedication, especially being a reflection of every single person I’ve encountered, worked with, and consumed work of. However, creative direction and production stand out the most. Based on my various personal experiences, my approach to creation is constantly evolving. From leaving Russia, to studying in France, and to now living in Canada where I discovered my queer identity, these perspectives continue to make me the artist I am today. Overall, the goal is to accumulate as much experience in the creative field, assist in as many projects becoming a reality as possible, and to die knowing I have contributed to the 45,500-year-long history of human art.
